Schema Markup (JSON-LD) Generator & Tester guide

What is schema markup?

Schema markup (also called structured data) is code, usually JSON-LD, that describes what a page is about using the schema.org vocabulary. Search engines read it to understand details such as a business address, a product price or an article author.

For some content types, valid markup can make a page eligible for enhanced Google results, often called rich snippets or rich results. Google does not guarantee that any page will receive one.

How to use this Google schema markup generator

  1. Pick a schema type, for example Local Business, Product or Article. Use “Load example” to see a filled-in sample.
  2. Fill in the fields with information that is visible on your page. Markup should match what visitors can see.
  3. Check the Quality tab for missing or recommended properties.
  4. Copy the script tag and paste it into the head or body of the page it describes.
  5. Test the published page with Google's Rich Results Test and the Schema.org Validator (both linked beside the output).

Local schema generator for businesses

The Local Business type supports many business subtypes (restaurants, dentists, salons, contractors and more), address and map location, day-by-day opening hours, phone, email, area served and social profile links. Keep this information consistent with your website and business listings.

Which schema types help with Google results?

Google documents rich result features for types such as Article, Product, Local Business, Event, Job Posting, Video, Recipe, Review snippets and Breadcrumb. Google limited FAQ rich results in 2023 to a small set of well-known government and health sites, so FAQ markup is unlikely to show an enhancement for most websites, although it remains valid schema.org markup.

Requirements change over time. Always confirm the current rules in Google's structured data documentation.

Limits of this tool

The generator builds markup from the information you enter, entirely in your browser. It does not crawl your site or confirm that a rich result will appear, so test the final page before relying on it.
